I would like to say a big thank you to all those who supported me to represent West Bergholt and Eight Ash Green and voted for me in the Borough Council Elections on 6th May.  Whilst the the incumbent was returned it was with less than 50% of the votes cast and your vote placed me second with a creditable 653 votes ahead of the Lib Dems, Labour and the Green Party.

I moved to West Bergholt with my family in 1983, after completing service with the Royal Air Force.  I held a technology lecturers position in Chelmsford and my wife and I chose to live in West Bergholt because of its rural setting, village community, good local schools and easy access to public transport and public roads.  We believe that Colchester remains a town to be proud of and is ideally placed to experience the delights and benefits of Essex.

I am seeking to strengthen my representation of our Rural Communities by becoming a Borough Councillor for the Wards of West Bergholt and Eight Ash Green.  Over the years I have become disillusioned, disappointed and often frustrated by the manner in which Party Politics adversely impacts important decisions made by Colchester Borough Council.

My Commitment to You

By voting for me I commit to:

  • Defend our rural communities from inappropriate large-scale development;
  • Ensure that rural community interests are adequately considered in all relevant Colchester Borough Council decision making processes;
  • Ensure that as residents we get to choose if 20mph zones are the right choice for our village and should be implemented;
  • Ensure that north Colchester rural communities are properly represented at Borough Planning Committee level – currently this is not the case;
  • Defend against cuts in our rural public transport service and strive for greater investment in this area.
  • Work tirelessly to ensure CBC provides it’s Parishes with adequate project capital grant funding derived from the Council tTaxes paid by rural community residents and businesses.
  • Speak in defence of West Bergholt and Eight Ash Green interests unfettered by party political positioning;
  • Press for a voter-elected Mayor/Council Leader chosen by all borough residents.
  • Admit when a wrong decision has been made and strive to avoid a repeat;
  • Work to keep party politics out of local decision-making.
